The People:
Ken Johnston
B.Sc (Agric) Hons
Ken completed an Agricultural Science degree with
honours at the University of Western Australia in
1983. Since graduating he has worked in the turf
industry for 18 years.
He was a Turf Manager at the WACA cricket
ground from 1986 until 1991. In this role he was
responsible for the preparation of cricket wickets
and sporting surfaces for international cricket,
football and lacrosse.
Ken started his own turf consultancy business
(Sports Turf Technology) in 1990, which he still part
owns and operates. He was the principal author and researcher for the Turf Irrigation
and Nutrient Study, a 3 year project funded by local government and state government
authorities. He has been a Committee member of the UWA “Turf Industries Research
Steering Committee” since its establishment in 1995.

Peter Ruscoe
B.App.Sc. (Hort.Tech.) Hons
Cert IV Hort. (Turf Mgt.)
Peter completed an Applied Science degree in
horticulture with honours at the University of
Queensland, Gatton College in 1990. He has
worked in the turf industry for thirteen years.
Peter joined Sports Turf Technology in 2002 and is
now part owner of the company. He is also the
current President of the Turf Grass Association of
Australia (WA).
Peter was the Technical Services Manager for
Chemturf Pty Ltd, a national supplier of turf
maintenance products, from 1990 to 1999.
Peter then moved to Perth and worked at the Christ Church Grammar School Playing
Fields, Mt Claremont, from 1999 to 2001. He was responsible for the maintenance and
preparation of sports fields for cricket, football, hockey, soccer and rugby, and gained a
trade certificate in turf management in 2000.
